MFCR/Panty Raid
Billy Childish once quipped that originality is overrated, it's authenticity that really matters. Like Childish, local louts The Midways believe the height of authenticity was achieved in 1964 when Dave Davies punched out the riff to "You Really Got Me" (with The Sonics' "Strychnine" coming in a close second). With their two contributions to this split seven-inch ("Get Out Now" and "Shake it Up"), The Midways provide a postcard-perfect document of a time when girls wore beehives and dudes partied in togas. On the flipside, Ottawans The Glads opt for a less charming, more guttural take on the same, coming on like biker-gang toughs who are just as likely to steal the riff to Them's "Gloria" (for their own "Do the Go to Hell") as brazenly as they would steal your girl.
